OUR WORK

ABOUT US
My father, George and his brother Arthur were craftsmen. In a day when you had to fix everything and could not afford to throw away anything, they taught themselves at a young age, to paint, fretsaw, veneer, marble, polish, turn wood and metal.
Trained engineers, they had a great attention to detail - even if something was hidden "they knew it was there" so it had to be right! From about the age of 8 yo I developed the bug too... standing at my father's side in his workshop asking a thousand questions, being shown how to hold a chisel, sharpen a blade, cut a dovetail, file a flat, turn a piece of brass, manipulate silver. At ten, I was decorating bedroorms, at twelve, making flying airplanes, fixing washing machines, chairs and whatever the neighbours wanted fixing. I would take all of my new toys apart to see how they worked and then put them back together again (aha James May, you were not the first with that idea!). Experience that covers being a maker of jewellery, a patented inventor, and a professional artist , I have continued for forty years to create, repair and refurbish, items of sentimental value in my spare time., Still with my father's and grandfather's tools at hand.

HOW WE WORK

After initial contact, we will arrange to meet with you to evaluate your item. We will provide an assessment of the work needed at that time and that will be followed by a written quotation. Our price is fixed and includes all materials and workmanship. It does not however include delivery or collection.
At initial inspection, we will highlight to you, if it is likely that there may be some hidden damage/work needed that we cannot see upon first inspection.
In the event that further work is needed that we could not have foreseen at the initial inspection, we will always explain that to you in writing, before we commence any additional work for your approval.
Depending upon the item and your feelings for its future, you may be looking for a simple repair, refurbishment or renovation. Some clients will ask for an item to be "as good as new" whilst others wish for a more sympathetic repair that retains the character and age of the item more clearly. We will work to understand what your preferred route should be and include a description of that goal in our quotation.
We will take photographs before, during and after our work and share those with you electronically. We would like to make use of such images from time to time to show other clients but will of course respect your wishes if you would not like us to do so.
if the work is required for insurance purposes, we will share any photographs requested and a copy of the quotation to the insurer. If there is a request to invoice the insurance company for the work, we can do so, but we do need to insist, that if they fail to pay for any reason within the time period given to them, that you do remain liable for payment.
We will do our utmost to care for your items whilst they are in our possession, but we would ask that you please provide adequate insurance for the appropriate value, to cover for all eventualities of loss whilst it is with us.
Finally, whilst we do need contact details to communicate with you, we will never share these with anyone without your consent and will only use them during the repair or for after care communication.
